When is the best time to plant?
In our area, we generally recommend planting in early to mid spring or early to mid fall. Both of those planting times give shrubs, trees, flowers or lawns the opportunity to become established before the weather becomes too hot or too cold. Of course, if your garden design includes annuals, they have to be planted in the spring.
If you have a sprinkler system, you can sometimes plant a little later into the warmer months.
When you purchase plants in the fall, they are starting to go dormant and are less likely to be stressed from transplanting. A fall planting gives plants the opportunity to become established before the energetic growth season of spring.
